Support / Re: Network requires for location info

Thanks for the info which greatly helps. Yes, long-pressing the map without network has issues since it tries to get stats like county/elevation/etc from the network. In version 15 coming out in 2025, the app will handle it differently to allow the press without network.

In the meantime, try this:
    1) Display the offline list (not map).
    2) Tap the + (insert) button at the bottom right.
    3) Select Waypoint to insert.
    4) Use the location dialog to position the crosshairs where you want.
    5) Select waypoint averaging to improve coordinate quality.
    6) When done, stop the averaging and close the dialog to insert the waypoint.

Using the map long-press is just a quick way to show coordinates and stats for a location, but the location dialog has way more power and accuracy to do what you want. Use that instead for now.

Sure! I must be going wrong somewhere then.

To create a new offline list, I find a cache on the live map.
Go to drawer
Select visible cache only
Save to offline list

Exit live map

Go to new list
Delete the cache (I just want an empty list)
Select map view
Long press where I want to place a cache

At this point I get an error message saying network required (see screenshot)

Yes, you can add waypoints to an offline list with no network signal since the app will use the GPS. Are you using a map view of the offline list (not Live)?

If you provide the exact steps you are taking to create waypoints, maybe I can see where a problem is.

Hi,
Mostly I have signal, but I'm trying to place caches in an area with no signal and I cannot get location info with no network?

I go to a location, place a cache, put a pin on an offline list, (map view) and then navigate back to it after walking away to ensure good coords.

But when there's no signal it doesn't allow me to add pin.

Is there a method to work around this please?
Thanx

Knowing what screens you were viewing or opening would help. Items like avatars on cache screens or great/helpful/image data in logs must be retrieved at the time those screens are opened. Pre-downloading images is only those in the description. I'm not sure what you mean by local data.

A screenshot goes a long way in showing exactly what you are seeing so I know where in the app you are. There are two ways to display drafts in Geooh... Geocaches and Profile.

The app simply uses the API to send a request for a list of drafts available at the time the request is sent... they are not stored in the app. Possibly, Groundspeak was having server issues. It's hard to say since I haven't gotten any other reports and in testing it all works as expected.

Another thing to try is close/reopen the app. The API sends draft numbers as part of the user stats so updating via restarting the app refreshes those stats. Also, clicking the smiley on the Home Screen also refreshes the stats.

Thanks for the info on where to turn off the API.

Yes. On that trip, I expected to be in an area with limited signal. So I downloaded everything to a list using full mode and included images. It worked well except for when the signal was marginal, and I had to wait for it to timeout before it would show the local data.

Is it developer adjustable?

This was in the city. Network connection was excellent the entire time. I had drafts online before I started. I submitted more drafts during my outing. They were sent online, not queued.

As I said, at first none showed. Then for a time during the day they did show. Then later at home they were gone again. No change to anything on the server. They are still online, but not showing in the app.

A screenshot would only show a blank screen that says (empty list). But if I go online with my browser, there are about a dozen drafts from a couple of days in there.
