I have a tic watch pro smart watch which runs wear OS the watch does not have a magnet sensor but the app does not show up as able to download or install on the watch. Is it possible to add support for the app without the magnetometer sensor?
The watch app is a companion app to the phone version of Geooh. This means the watch is not shown in the Google Play store... it is downloaded from the phone. So on the watch open the Google Play store and perform an install from the phone.
If you are using the install from phone and Geooh is not showing, then it is the lack of the compass sensor in the watch. I'm reluctant to remove the magnetometer requirement for fear of users not understanding why the compass won't rotate on the watch... and then complain and rate the app low. How do you intend to use the watch with Geooh without a compass?
I'll check to see if I can identify watches without a compass and give a warning instead or preventing installs. If possible, it can be included in a future release.
That makes sense, I would be using the watch for the stats face for starters. Also I find that I like to cache hands free and will often clip my phone to my backpack strap or in pocket. It would be cool if I could look on my watch to see the map and route to a cache even if I'm not using the compass. I find I don't often use the compass at all even when I am using the phone. So even seeing a small map on my wrist and the cache location would be an AWESOME feature to have for those without mag sensors. Or make GPS heading an OPTION for those who don't have the sensor? Just an idea, been dying for watch support 😭
Ok, let me look into it. I know you can simulate the compass via moving so that could be a backup. At a minimum, I'll show warning indicating compass won't work.
The latest 12.5.4 release removed the requirement that watches have a compass. Could you verify it is working for you now?
Awesome, yes it is working on my watch there is one thing I noticed however. When I send a cache to the watch the map that displays the cache location and line does not update as I move closer to it. Is this possible to do?
The location should come from the phone to reduce watch battery usage. And if phone isn't available, the watch GPS if it has one. Are both of these missing? Is Geooh active on the phone? Have you allowed Geooh to get location always while in the background?
The app has location permissions all the time. My watch does have GPS however the map does not update the location beyond the initial push to the watch. Once it's on the watch that's it no update in location. I tested with the app open and tuning and with the screen locked same results.
Hmmm, I heard similar reports but I never could replicate it. Be sure the Wear OS settings for the app have location permissions on also. See if Google maps will move location as you drive.
App permissions are on and so does Google maps on the watch. When using google maps the location does update as I move around
Do you have the Wear OS app by Google installed on the phone and can it connect to the watch?
Yes wear os app installed on phone and connected to watch
I just did a field test and it's working as expected... distance to cache changes moving to or from it.
Do you see the watch icon on the top bar? Press it to see it it identifies your watch properly.
Install the Geooh tile on the watch and tap it to see if you get stats.
When you send the cache to the watch do you see a message on the watch that it's connected to the phone?
Just wanted to let you know I uninstalled the app on my watch and reinstalled it and it's working now as it should. Thank you!!
