Title: manual waypoints disappear
Post by: gobbledigook on September 07, 2024, 12:31:05 PM
Hi,
i'm enjoying the rich features in this app, but I have a recurring issue.

I place caches and use *long press* to insert a manual waypoint on the live map which I then rename.

After an undetermined period of time the manual waypoints often disappear! (days/weeks)

The most recent example, I placed the cache 2 weeks ago, added manual waypont, it was still showing on the live map 4 days ago, I have come to write the cache up today and it's gone!

Am I doing something wrong? is a manually added waypoint on live map not a permanent thing?

Thanx

The Live map by nature is temporary. You can display Live all over the world and at some point caches that were on the map are removed... or eventually the app database gets HUGE. Use offline lists for caches and waypoints you want to keep since you maintain list contents and when to delete.

I need to remove the Insert button after a long-press for the Live map. Next release.

thank you for the explanation, I don't really use lists, i haven't understood how they work better as opposed to the live map as I have signal 99% of the time.
But i'll try to remember to use this in future.

Offline lists are not just for being offline... they are an excellent way to organize your geocaching adventures. It is the strength of Geooh that no other geocaching app can match. You can make a list for an upcoming caching trip, a list of special caches you want to track, a list of your DNFs, a list of caches you and a friend haven't found... or store waypoints you create yourself... etc, etc, etc. You can use the Live map to find then store specific caches you want to go after. Or use the Search and Download buttons to pull down caches from other sources. If only using a live map, I think the official app is better suited for that.
