I'm experiencing a significant increase in the time required to update the map in the latest version. I suspect that this is related to the introduction of adventure lab caches?
- I tried disabling them with "Filter by icons/colors" to check whether this was the case, but that did not change anything. Likely because all caches are still downloaded even with the filters on.
- It seems that adventure caches are being downloaded far outside the range that regular caches are.
I think they're a great addition to the app, but unless it can be done in a way that does not incur extra waiting time I'd like the ability to disable them entirely. (Obviously I could be wrong about why the app seems slower now, but lab caches was the main difference I noticed.)
There is a new setting in the Misc section to disable Adventure Labs on the Live map. See if that changes anything.
Even with the setting on it shouldn't cause a significant increase, plus no other changes to the map were made. Could it be one the periodic slowdowns from Groundspeak servers that all apps experience at times?
I did go through the settings, but managed to miss that one. With adventure labs disabled the map update goes back to its regular speed (several times faster than with them enabled).
Interesting. Do you have a lot of Adventure Labs nearby?
Geooh is temporarily using a link the official app uses to get labs... so the official app could be slow for you also. Very soon Groundspeak will add a new API endpoint that partners can use to get labs instead and Geooh will switch to that when available. Maybe the API method will be quicker.
Thanks for letting me know.
Quite a few, I count 19 lab caches that are loaded if I enable the setting. Is that one call for all of the lab caches, or is it also contacting the server for each of those 19 to get additional information?
Both the offical Geocaching and Adventure Lab apps seem quite snappy, even when going to a place that shouldn't be cached.
